Così come per i Dire Straits, anche la metal band americana ha amato la vena compositiva dello scomparso compositore romano: come la band di Mark Knopfler, i Metallica hanno usato The Ecstasy Of Gold (tema dal film Il Buono, il Brutto e Il Cattivo / The Good, The Bad And The Ugly) come intro dei concerti. Questo sin dal tour del 1983, un paio di anni dopo che i Dire Straits avevano scelto quella musica per iniziare ogni loro concerto!
